The Benefits Of Cloud Computing

Cloud computing has taken on major popularity in both the business and educational world.  It also is increasingly popular in the personal sector of computer use.  With the ability to access whatever you need anywhere, cloud computing is the way of the future.  Here are some of the benefits of cloud computing.

Unbridled Flexibility

When you have cloud computing, you have the ability to upscale or downscale as needed.  That means that you have all of the machines that you need.  You can also access your equipment from anywhere you decide to authorize.  In other words, it makes it much easier to work from home or to move offices.  You can even access your cloud from the conference room to make presenting easier.

Initial Costs Are Cut

When you start a business, there is a lot of expenses.  A typical expense is the computer hardware.  With cloud computing, you no longer need to purchase expensive hardware.  All you need is client PCs to connect to the cloud.  Anything you can do to cut down startup costs will help your business.

You also won’t need to operate your own data center.  All of the data is stored offsite on the networks of the cloud computing company.  This typically means better physical and digital security because that is a big portion of what a cloud computing company has to offer.

Always Updated

Do you hate having to perform computer updates?  Then cloud computing is definitely for you.  Instead of doing them yourself, the company that maintains the servers also performs updates for you.  You never have to worry about them again.  Every time you log into the cloud, you know that you are getting the most updated versions.

The same goes for files on the network.  Whenever you access them, you know you are getting the most updated files.  This is because every time someone saves their file, it saves to the server.

Faster Processing With Better Performance

Utilizing cloud computing means that a good portion of the work is done on the side of the cloud.  If you were running all that work on a single machine it would start to slow it down.  Instead, it is spread out over the servers that make up the cloud.  Your computer is also left with more memory.

Less work conducted on the actual computer means that a far less powerful client machine is needed.  You will only need to compare the machine you are using, with the tools that you need.  For some they might need multiple monitors, for example, and to meet that requirement you might need upgraded graphics cards in your machines.

Coworkability

With cloud computing, it is easy to share files among coworkers.  It even means that coworkers can do more together and work on team projects.  It is quicker than emailing files back and forth.  You can still easily track changes and who made them.  Many pieces of software already have this as a feature, for example, Microsoft Office has “Track Changes”.

Only The Energy You Need

Cloud computing means that you upsize when you need it and if you don’t need computers, you downscale.  This means that you are being as green as possible.  You are only using the computing power you need and the corresponding maintenance.  A lot of companies struggle with the process of being green.  Without a data center, powerful computers, and the cooling required for both, you will save a lot of money as a whole.

Post-Disaster Recovery

Should a disaster happen there will be a lot of recovery to start performing.  From office furniture to time lost, disasters dole out a lot of damage.  When you cloud compute, though, you don’t need to worry about recovering your computers.  Since all of the data is stored in offsite areas or fire safe areas, your data will be safe.

Have you or your company not moved to the cloud yet?  There are a lot of options out there to connect your office with cloud computing.  Now that you know the benefits you should be ready to make the move.  With all of the benefits, it would be crazy not to.

The Electoral College

Many people hear the term college and think that the electoral college is an actual place.  While the electoral college is often held at the same place, the term actually refers to a group of people.  As part of the constitution, the founding fathers created the electoral college as part of the election system.  Let’s learn more about the system.

From the second article of the constitution, the election system is formed.  Among this is the setup for the system to select the President and Vice President of the country.

With a country as big the United States, it wouldn’t be practical to gather the whole country for an election.  As such the country was created with two different election systems.  One election is system is the popular vote (vote by the people).  The other election system is an electoral college.

During the general election, people vote for which electors they want to represented by.  In the constitution, the only requirement for selecting these electors was that they couldn’t serve in any government position.  No matter if they were elected or hired into their position.  This still holds true today.

Each state was allowed to come up with their own plan on how to choose the electors.  It wasn’t until after the Civil War that all states started to use the popular vote to elect their representatives in the electoral college.

The number of electors that a state gets is based off of their population.  This is achieved by having a total number of electors equal to the number of representatives the state has in the house plus two.  The two additional electors represent the two senators that the state has.  As for Washington DC, it receives the number of electors it would have if it were a normal state.  The one limitation to that is that it may not have more than the lowest populous state.  This leaves the current electoral college with 538 electors.  This number will only change once every 10 years as the census determines how many representatives each state is allowed.

While every state currently uses the popular vote to determine the electors representing their state, most states do not show the electors on the ballot.  Only eight states print the names of their electors on the ballot, these would be:

  • Arizona
  • Idaho
  • Louisiana
  • North Dakota
  • Oklahoma
  • Rhode Island
  • South Dakota
  • Tennessee

When the constitution was made, it was stated that the electoral vote would determine the president.  The runner-up for electoral votes would be the vice president.  This is no longer true.  In modern politics, the electoral vote only determines the president.  The president now picks a candidate as vice president while they are running for election.  So the only person the electoral college elects is the president, the vice president comes with him.

In order for a candidate to win in the electoral college, they must score at least 270 votes.  Currently, 270 votes would get the candidate over the majority vote, meaning that there was no way for another candidate to win.  When the census changes the number of representatives and through that the number of electors, the number of electoral college votes needed will go up or down accordingly.

The idea of the electoral college is a fairly unique and modern one.  One that many people argue is broken.  It is possible to win the United States election while losing the popular vote.  This is because of the electoral college.  Many people argue that this is not a fair election process and that they end up with a president that does not truly represent the people.

No matter what your view on the electoral college is, it has its roots in American history.  In order for it to be changed the government would need to come up with a radicalization of the United States Constitution, something that is not that easy to do.  Until that is complete the process will continue in this way.

For this year, the electoral college was a highly unpredictable group.  Many people were wondering if electors would ditch their candidates in order to ensure that Trump did not win the presidency.  With a bit of a surprise to many people, the electoral college upheld Donald Trump as the winner and he has been officially confirmed by the electoral college.

Life With A Dog

Adding a dog to your family can be a life altering experience. Not in a bad way though.  Dogs quickly work their way into their human’s lives and change them.  Have you ever wondered how having a dog changes your life? Let’s take a look.

A New Family Member

Adding a dog to your family is the same as adding a baby, you are adding a new family member who will quickly become beloved.  You care for your dog, spend time with your dog, feed them, and more, all just like a family member.  This feeling of having another family member is something that you can’t easily match and it isn’t something that you will take lightly.

A Dog Will Make You More Active

Unless you were already super active, a dog will make you more active. A dog needs to be walked regularly so they don’t use the bathroom in your house.  Most dogs also have a lot of energy. They want to get out and play, they need it too. Just like humans, dogs rely on exercise in order to stay fit.  You will be part of that exercise because a dog can’t go out and have fun by itself.

Dogs Provide Comfort

One of the best things you will find is that a dog will provide you with comfort. When you are feeling down, a dog will cuddle with you and spend time with you. As a big furry friend, there isn’t anything else that can really provide comfort in the same way.

There are often times when the bravest of us get scared when we are out walking alone.  A dog is your constant companion and no matter how loving they are with you, they are quick to defend their humans.  Many dogs will even defend other household animals as long as they have become accustom to them.

You Will Smile and Turn To Mush

Dog owners smile more than other pet owners and non-pet owners.  This is because dogs turn us to mush.  When we have our first dog, we become very attached to them.  No matter how cute someone else’s dog is, we think ours is the cutest and the best.  Something about dogs, whether its how cute they are, how good friends they are, the way they act, or something else, brings joy to our hearts.

Dogs Make Blunders And You Learn To Get Over Things

Dogs don’t think like humans do and as such they sometimes do things we wished they didn’t. For example, chewing up your cough or favorite pair of shoes.  This is just how they are.  You can train them not to but then there will just be another blunder.  Because you love your dog you learn to get over these blunders.  Through this you learn to get over things faster in general.  This is an important skill that will help you in everyday life.

You Will Have A New Friend Who Relies On You

Before you have a dog it is hard to imagine having someone who relies on you for everything.  Your dog trusts you to provide food every day, to take them on walks with you, to provide medical care, and to be a friend.  The feeling of having a friend who trusts you to provide for them is great.  A dog is just like a human, if you don’t provide it with the care you need, it will become sad and have emotional issues.  You will always want to be the best human for your dog. The last thing you want to do is upset them.

Your Dog Will Be Envious of You

Not everyone knows it but your dog gets envious when you are not there or when they see you doing other things.  You will have a new member to the family but it will be a new member that will require a lot of attention. Luckily, the attention you give will be fun and like nothing else you have experienced.

Dogs change your world but always in a good way.  Despite the fact they are dogs, our pets help us to be better humans.  That means you will be happier, more comfortable, and enjoy life more with a dog.  Out of all of the pets around the world, a dog is also the most loyal.  You will have a new friend, family member, and companion, all in an adorable, furry dog.

Pelosi Says Carson is “Disturbingly Unqualified” to be HUD Secretary

Recently reelected Democrat House Leader Nancy Pelosi stated that Ben Carson Carson, a retired Pediatric Neurosurgery from Johns Hopkins, “disturbingly unqualified” for the job of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

Pelosi fired off an angry statement following Carson’s nomination announcement:

Dr. Ben Carson is a disconcerting and disturbingly unqualified choice to lead a department as complex and consequential as Housing and Urban Development.

Our country deserves a HUD Secretary with the relevant experience to protect the rights of homeowners and renters, particularly in low income and minority communities, and to ensure that everyone in our country can have access to safe and affordable housing without facing discrimination or homelessness.

There is no evidence that Dr. Carson brings the necessary credentials to hold a position with such immense responsibilities and impact on families and communities across America.

The same women that told us we had to pass Obamacare to see what’s in it.  The same one, in the face of another historic election loss, thinks the Democrats don’t need a change in direction does think that Ben Carson would discriminate against blacks and other minorities.

This is completely absurd. Dr. Carson grew up poor in Detroit, living in government housing as a child.  He is most likely the first person to ever be nominated for Secretary of HUD who actually lived in a government project.  He is uniquely qualified to be Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

Nancy Pelosi has helped run the Democrat Party into the ground but for some reason the democrats have reelected her as House Minority Leader.  As with most of the leaders of the democratic party, she is full of criticism, yet offer no solutions.

Elf on the Shelf – A brief history

Sitting atop my company’s water cooler is a conspicuous elf, dressed in red with large beady eyes, legs crossed and casting a watchful gaze above everyone.

If you’re not familiar with it already, Elf on the Shelf is a growing holiday trend where you can buy a stuffed elf who will keep your children in check.

The rules are simple. The elf can’t be touched or it will lose its magic nor will it respond to words. it can, however, move about when no one is looking (here’s where you com in, mom and dad). The whole purpose of the elf is to keep children in the holiday spirit and on good behavior as they countdown to Christmas. Any shenanigans will be reported to Santa himself.

If at first it sounds a bit silly, that’s probably because it is. But the more you play along and buy in with your kids, the more of a focus the elf will become. Who can make the most creative pose? Who can dangle the elf in the most hilarious positions? At work, one colleague stuffed all the coffee packets behind the elf. Hey, no one is going to mess with Santa, not even for caffeine.

But best of all, elf in the shelf is a great family tradition that can help build anticipation for children. It serves as a wonderful reminder of what the true meaning of Christmas is while remaining fun and interactive. The elf is also a great talking point about presents and gratitude and all those other Christmas goodies. I know one teacher who used the elf in the classroom to great cheers and praise. So if you want to add something to your Christmas decorations, this is a good starting point. And if you’re one of those families that always want to add to traditions and holiday spirit, well look no further.

If you’re looking for a fun holiday tradition that your whole family can participate in then Elf on the Shelf is for you.

Celebrating the life of a dictator

With the recent demise of Fidel Castro it’s very interesting to see the response from the liberal left in the United States.  Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went a step further and issued a statement calling Castro a family friend and “a remarkable leader.”

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein couldn’t be outdone, so she took to Twitter:

Fidel Castro was a symbol of the struggle for justice in the shadow of empire. Presente!

— Dr. Jill Stein (@DrJillStein) November 27, 2016

And to think that this women was running for President of the United States.

Jesse Jackson  – We should celebrate the life of Castro

Brian Williams – Cubans would rather have donkey carts for transportation
“It’s still one of those nations where you see donkey carts alongside cars, trucks and buses in downtown Havana because that’s exactly what they’d rather have for transportation,” Williams stated Saturday.

I’m sorry Brian but I bet that Cubans would much rather have a different mode of transportation than donkey carts.

The left likes to talk about the improved healthcare system he implemented in Cuba.  What they either refuse to acknowledge or just don’t know is that Cuba has a 2 tiered healthcare system.  Tier 1 – Government Officials and Tourists and Tier 2 – citizens.

Fidel Castro imprisoned, tortured, killed, executed his own people for the crime of pursuing life, liberty and happiness.  Castro was not a dictator.  He was a tyrant.  He was a murderous thug tyrant.  There were 8,505 political arrests during the first 8 months of the year.  Carlos Eire is a professor of history and religious studies at Yale.  He wrote in the Washington Post, “13 Facts About Fidel Castro.” Read this and see the real Fidel Castro, not the one the left wants you to see.

Facebook Sellout To China

Mark Zuckerberg is no fool.  He understands the importance to China in his companies growth…but at what expense.  You see, Facebook is blocked from use in China.  It appears that the freedom that we have here in regards to the posts that appear in your feeds run contrary to the beliefs of the leaders in China.

Facebook has quietly developed software to suppress posts from appearing in people’s news feeds in specific geographic areas, according to three current and former Facebook employees, who asked for anonymity because the tool is confidential.
